Marked by noises peaks and self-indulgent experiments, “Heterogeneous Hieratic Areopagus” boasts a higher percentage of weirdo sounds in this lands, including the opener "A vulture has alighted on my fate." As such, it's the best encapsulation of R. Mandra' fascination with mixing atmosphere into black metal's extreme sonics. We could viewed everything here as adding to that atmosphere: the cold synth backgrounds, the "rotten" songs and repetitive riffing, the lo-fi anti-production, distinctively bleak, scary sounds.
